Understanding The Basics Of Speed Reading - Speed reading is not just a parlor trick you can use to impress your friends and family. For many it’s a necessary tool for managing time and information in the fast-paced business world, and for many others, specifically students, it’s the only way to get through reading-heavy class loads. The practiced speed reader can pick up a lengthy document or a thick stack of papers and use their skill to get at the meat of the subject by skimming for the most important details and information. Without developing the ability to speed read, this time-saving technique is merely flipping through pages fast. Speed reading, or increasing the rate at which you read text, is linked to increasing the rate at which you understand what you’re reading. The key to successful speed reading is increasing your understanding of the text as you increase the rate at which you read the words. It takes training and practice, but don’t be intimidated by the idea of a cha...

Using the Internet for Statistical Analyses - Statistical analyses are the tests of the various problems of statistics, or the field that records and defines the occurrence of events within a group or population. Probability theory continues to be a fundamental aspect of the study of statistics. However, Statistics is a formal mathematical field that deals with discrete events that occur over time in the realm of large populations of events or individuals.  Statistical analyses deal with numbers on the large scale.  There are a great number of statistical analyses that are used in every day life to calculate the relative risk of an activity, to determine the performance of a particular stock on the stock exchange or to work out the odds of horse racing. It is important to study the various types of statistical analy...

V3 Screen Printing - Everywhere around logos, designs and art shows up and comes out of the woodwork using a modernized version of an older technology. Screen printing is a helpful way to expose a company name and/or logo to the public. Screen printing originally started out using silk as a medium but has since moved on to using stretched porous, finely woven nylon or polyester fabrics, with carefully stenciled designs, and delightful creations take form and come to life. From many of Andy Warhol s famous works to such commonly used items as T-shirts and hats the practice of stretching a fabric and laying out a non-permeable material to cover areas of the fabric to be unaffected by dyes has created influential and marketable works of art. This inexpensive form of advertising creates a wide range of possibilities for a company to establish itself in the market, or for an already established company to gain great recognition.   With a great flexibility and range of uses across diffe...

Victorian Old Prints are Educational and Decorative - If you've ever read a great historical novel, watched a movie set in another era, or gazed at paintings from the Grand Masters, you've probably experienced the feeling of being transported to another time and place. Perhaps you've immersed yourself in a culture from long ago and contemplated what life was like during those times. What did people do for fun? How did they go about the business of daily life? What were their concerns? What were their joys and sorrows?  One way to make history come alive - since the invention of the printing press, at least - is to look through the publications of the time. Magazines, newspapers, and books from an historical period give you a sense of immediacy about the concerns of the day. Reading stories written during those times and seeing old prints and photographs put you in the moment - a moment that's unfiltered by historians or other modern day commentators.  If you're an ...

Video Poker: How to Play the Game - If you are looking for a fun and challenging alternative to playing slot machines, video poker is the game for you. Instead of simply pulling the machine handle and hoping that you will be lucky enough to meet a row of identical icons, in video poker your moves would rule whether you win or lose. Moreover, the house edge in video poker is much lower than at slots.  Playing video poker is similar to playing draw poker on a slot machine. It enables you to enjoy the action of poker without having to face other players who may be more experienced and skilled than you are. In addition, in video poker, there are no dealers, no rakes, no bluffing, no cheating; it is all about you and your poker skills.  How to Play Video Poker: There are several variations to video poker. Some of the video poker variations are played with standard 52 card decks while others are played with additional wild cards. All the variations are based on the traditional card...

Video Poker: Why Do People Like It - Yesterday, I was having a pint at my local bar when I noticed a small guy in a dark suit. Sitting to the far-right corner of the bar and away from all of us, this short man was crouched over a glowing video poker screen. Huh?   It was just a few months back that casinos all over the world and especially in Las Vegas were removing poker, baccarat and blackjack tables and adding more and more slot machines instead. But then something peculiar took place. Casino owners and employees noticed that one corner of the machines was more crowded than the rest. A short examination revealed that the games allocated to the slot section was none other than video poker. So why are so many interested players preferring video poker? Here, I will try and answer some of the more practical reasons why this has happened and will happen even more and more: 1) The Odds: While slot machines offer odds that are pretty difficult to win on (and by that I mean the real bi...

Viking Trekkies - History weaves its influence into pop culture via many avenues ... One of the strangest is the Viking influence on Star Trek, especially The Next Generation. Ever since that series found the airwaves, I've often wondered if one or more of its writers were descended from peoples who endured raids from the North and then used this show to exact their version of revenge. I've always been interested in the influence that the Viking era had on western civilization, which is considerable. Here are but a few examples: 1. Vikings created the first governing legislature of 'common' citizens in history, calling their parliament a thing, which is also where the English language derived that word. 2. Viking law was the first in Europe, at least, to conduct trials with a jury of the accused's peers. 3. It was virtually 500 years before any other culture would design a ship that could travel as swiftly as a Viking dragonship (and let's not forget that those...

Virginia Schools Focus on Literacy Problem - Literacy has always been a problem for school systems throughout the United States. In the past, however, the impact was minimal compared to today’s workplace, which requires an ever-higher level of literacy to achieve success. Good reading skills are the foundation for students in any subject. You cannot learn mathematics or science without being able to understand the textbooks. Such skills also are demanded in the workplace. Able readers have a better chance to improve their lifestyle over that of their parents by obtaining well-paying jobs in career fields that would otherwise not be available to them. Literacy can make the difference between whether a child drops out of school or graduates from college. It truly is the foundation for a decent life. Moreover, illiterate or nearly illiterate adults and families put a drain on the commonwealth’s resources.  Businesses that cannot employ well-educated, literate workers move their enter...

Voice Changer Software Perfects Your Educational Projects - If you are a teacher or a professor, obviously you will be vexed when one student gives a sneaky yawn in your class. Don’t hastily blame him but think twice about your lecture: may it lack a small fire of passion and creativeness? If you are a student, you cannot wait to become a Jack Black’s pet in “School of Rock” as you can memorize a mathematical formula by a song and get A mark not because of any force but your true love. All is about new pedagogy. No student wants to listen to a rambling speech and many teachers try to add some games, small contests, etc. into the lessons with the hope that their class becomes more vivid. However, this world seems to be not enough without the wise recognition of the new technology’s usage. Voice changer software (VCS) is one of the modern tools which can perfect your educational audio projects. With the function of a recorder, MP3 player and especially voice changer and voice simulator,...
